The classifications of firms into micro, small, medium, and large-scale units are mostly based on their size of inventory in P&M, gross assets, and net assets apart from turnover over the years. Remaining at micro and small-scale firms helps such firms to be eligible for trade-related benefits such as priority to loans from banks (working capital and term loans), concessional rate of interest, waiver of certain compliance procedures, shorter collection of trade dues, entitlement to overdue interest on dues by purchasers pending beyond certain cutoff periods involved in credit sales, etc. Once you graduate to the next levels, there is a danger of losing these benefits one after another. While micro and small-scale firms stand to benefit compared to their contemporaries in the next level, it may not be necessary to check your growth opportunities/promises to achieve better in your endeavors. We come across many mergers, amalgamations, takeovers, etc., which happen only aimed at better growth and expansion.
