There is no bar to contribute over 21,000 employees. However, for this segment, both the employer and employee have to pay on gross wages, and the benefit ceiling would be restricted at par with 21,000 workers.

Hi,

The Act provides for catering to employees and their families who are earning a salary/wages up to and including INR 21,000.00 per month. The main purpose of the Government in enacting an Act like ESI is to ensure that workers/employees in the lower strata of society are provided with some form of assurance regarding their health. Many of them do not opt for insurance, nor do they have sufficient funds to allocate towards their healthcare needs. ESIC was designed to assist these individuals, and the salary limit was established after considering various factors.

If you do not fall within the specified criteria, you may explore other group health insurance policies outside the ESI.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Only those employees whose monthly salary is less than or equal to 21,000 rupees can avail the Employee State Insurance (ESI) scheme. Please go through this link for more details - http://www.mondaq.com/india/x/560980...ld+To+RS+21000. Click on the "+" sign for more helpful answers like these.
