Urgent help is required - I am working in a private school as a teacher on a contractual basis since 3rd July 2017. A new contract letter was issued on 3rd July 2018, which states that I am on a service contract effective from 5th July 2018. I verbally informed my head on 4th July 2018 that I am pregnant, and followed up with a message on 12th July 2018. I am currently 5 months pregnant and have been unwell since 16th September.

I informed the head of my school via email that I will not be able to attend school due to the same reason and reiterated this the following day through email. On 18th September, I received a termination email from the school. I would like to inquire, considering I have been working in the same organization since July 2017, if I am eligible for the following under the Maternity Act:

1) Can the school terminate my duties while I am pregnant?
2) Will the new contract affect the eligibility criteria of 80 days?

Termination after intimation of pregnancy would not be in accordance with law. Secondly the 80 day clause was sought to be avoided by giving break of one or two days. This can be contested.
