Dear Kumud,
Good to note that you would like to train your managers. The benefit of training managers is that the knowledge and skills that they gain do not remain with them but percolate down to the subordinates. Many times their subordinates just imitate their managers and master the skills (though they may not understand the theoretical part that lies behind the skills).
The top-most skill for managers is Motivational Skills. Managers need to get the work done from their subordinates. However, many managers just pass on the instructions that they receive from their seniors. Other managers simply overload their subordinates with responsibility.
Managers often experience stress. Many times, they face wrath from their superiors or customers. Out of frustration, they may vent their anger on their subordinates. While subordinates may not retaliate, they mentally disengage. If the subordinates are demotivated, they are unlikely to come up with ideas for process improvement. Thus, the organization pays the price because of the managers.
Sometimes managers lack interpersonal skills or have an abrasive nature. Such managers may domineer over their subordinates unjustly. This degrades the interpersonal environment of the company. Can you expect subordinates to give their best in such a situation? Recently, there was a post on this forum of a similar kind to which I have replied. I have been conducting training for more than a decade. Considering the requirements of the clients across industries, I have designed a 2-day training program on "Leadership and Motivation." You can find details of the program by clicking the following link: https://www.citehr.com/228154-leader...ml#post1022515

Dear Kumud,
You need to do a Training Needs Analysis to find out the gap in the competencies of the managers and see what skills needs focus.
Here are the common techniques for training needs identification
Observation (Direct & Indirect)
Questionnaires
Interviews (Management/Individual)
Complaints
Customer VOC (Internal/External)
Performance metrics, Data Points (Service Level Agreements)
Psychometric Tests
Competency Based Approach
The managers might need training for the following skills:
Communication Skills (written and Verbal)
Coaching Skills
Motivating Employees
Delegation Skills
Emotional Intelligence
Problem Solving
Leadership Skills
The duration and frequency can be decided once you go through the TNI data and analyse it. It is very situational and depends upon lot of factors like present skill gap of the employees, urgency of the situation, department goals and others.
You may send me a test mail (atul@oasisoflearning.com) to gain more information regarding the procedures for conducting Training Needs Analysis. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I know this thread is almost a year old, but I came across it and I want to revive this discussion. As someone who is a manager in the training department and a psychology student, I truly believe that soft skills related to Emotional Intelligence (EI), empathy, and intrinsic motivation are key in building any leader. Being able to identify the key traits and personalities of your team enables and empowers you to manage them differently and adapt yourself to their working styles. This, in turn, creates a happier, healthier, and more productive environment.
If your employees are happier with you, they will work harder and respect you more.
