I want to know whether a spouse is covered if he/she is working in another institution earning above 5000/-. Per ESIC rules, parents (dependents) who have income exceeding 5000/- are not covered. Is the same applicable to the spouse for medical benefits?

The income of the spouse is not a factor for deciding the ESI coverage, and she is eligible irrespective of her income.
As regards parents, Section 2(12)(v) of the Act specifies an income ceiling to be eligible for the benefits under the Act, while there is no such mention for the spouse.
