I am facing a serious problem in recruitment. We have an urgent requirement for a PHP Developer in our organization. After a lot of hard work, we found some suitable candidates and offered them an offer letter, including their choice of joining date and salary as per market standards. However, they didn't show up on their date of joining, citing excuses such as family problems, accidents, being unwell, or finding a better opportunity.

Please guide me on what recruitment strategy I should follow.

Choose candidates who can join instead of those whom you consider the best. If you are looking for diamonds, be willing to pay for diamonds. What do you expect? Why would candidates not choose the best offer? During tough times, companies may lay off employees without a second thought, right? So why shouldn't employees look for what is better for them?

If you truly want your selected candidates to join, then either offer them what they desire, or do not be overly ambitious in your candidate selection process. Adjust your specifications lower and choose candidates accordingly.

Just as you are seeking the best candidates, these candidates are also searching for the best offers. Competition is a two-way street; do not forget this. While striving to be competitive yourself, you cannot blame others for not being competitive. You choose the best candidates, they choose the best companies. I hope this makes sense to you.

Hi Raj,

We offered the salary as expected by the candidate and also kept the date of joining in accordance with the candidate's notice period. Everything was in line with the candidate's expectations. We waited for 30 days of his notice period; in fact, until the 29th day, the candidate confirmed his joining with us. However, on the date of joining, he neither turned up to join nor answered our call.

While we understand that candidates have the right to choose what's best for them, it would have been appreciated if he had informed us in case of not joining, so that we could have made alternative arrangements.

Thanks
