I am working as a Consultant with an MNC in Pune since February 6, 2017. I have two questions:
1. I have been on medical leave since November 9, 2017, due to a severe spinal cord injury. I am still undergoing treatment and have been submitting all the medical documents on time. I have already utilized a few leaves and am now on loss of pay. How long will I be able to avail medical leave in my organization?
2. Will I receive any part of my salary if I am on loss of pay for a complete month (30 days)? Or will there be no salary (zero salary)?

Hello,
There is no set protocol for sick leave; however, it is a discretionary right of the company to approve the leave or not. In your case, it seems genuine as you are suffering from a spinal cord injury. Therefore, it is suggested that you apply for leave for the period you require, along with a doctor's certificate justifying the rest for that particular period. I am sure a well-cultured company would not deny leave in the case of your medical exigencies.
Senior members, please correct if you find something wrong.

Dear young friend,
I am sorry for what has happened to you as a result of some accident. In fact, if such a serious injury was not caused by any employment-related accident, one cannot expect anything from the employer other than compassion. Only the extent of your employer's compassion can determine how long you can be on leave without pay due to genuine medical reasons. In such a delicate situation, the law cannot offer much assistance. If it is feasible for you to work from home, you can request your employer to consider this option so that they can help supplement your total loss of earnings to some extent. Make sure to undergo treatment properly with a positive mindset and maintain an optimistic outlook, believing that you are improving day by day.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
