Without sounding technical, artificial intelligence means a machine imitating human intelligence in performing tasks in a way most similar to how humans do. For example, the 'Google Assistant' will perform limited tasks sought by people, such as sending a message to someone. One level above is the humanoid robot 'Sofia' of IBM. They will be employed to perform routine tasks that humans used to do. You can say they will be the future assistants in hardware and software but not in flesh and blood.

Intelligence, by definition, is "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills." Human beings and pretty much every living thing acquire intelligence - and we do so either via genetics, where certain traits are hardwired into our responses and abilities or by mimicking successful interactions. For example, a human baby would learn how to open a door by observing others and assimilating the movements required to "open the door."
Artificial intelligence is about being able to replicate this "application of knowledge" through an instrument - like a computer. A lawnmower also possesses a certain kind of intelligence - in its structure of blades, we have hardcoded the way the blade needs to move to cut the grass efficiently. However, a lawnmower lacks the ability to learn new things. An artificially intelligent instrument will be able to do that - by collecting data (similar to us) and by experimenting with different approaches and remembering the outcomes - the "cause and effect."
In HR, AI can revolutionize the reasons why HR exists. Currently, the HR department exists to manage people and all the procedures involved in enhancing their productivity and accountability, such as paperwork, training, performance monitoring, rewards, counseling, etc. Many of these functions can be significantly improved by utilizing AI-enabled tools. For instance, much of the paperwork and monitoring can be automated (with numerous startups focusing on specific elements), freeing up HR practitioners to concentrate on the core aspect of their role - the "human" element.
Looking ahead (possibly within the next 20 years), the primary function of HR would evolve to focus more on guiding and counseling individuals. The HR professionals, with their AI-augmented wisdom, would serve as the wizards (regardless of gender) who help the team remain focused, content, and growing.

First, understand what humans do. They learn and apply their experience when performing the same task. For example, you learn to drive, and the more experience you gain, the more efficient you become. AI represents the same intelligence in machines. Until now, programs have been programmed to calculate that 2+2 equals 4. Now, we are empowering them to think and justify that 2+2 equals 4, not just because we said so, but because they think so.
Now, a computer might also say, "I think I can do it."

I am developing a solution that can answer large volumes of HR queries instantly using AI. No more intranets, no more portals, no more HR service desk queues. I see it having great potential.

AI works only when the companies have no trust in humans or when humans have no trust in each other. These days, people are not thinking about themselves or others because of the importance of earning money.
To stop AI, people have to support and believe in each other, or else they may even have to lose their jobs.
