Dear All, Employer is asking to submit the original documents. Is it legal to take employee original marksheets and certificate as a job security? Kindly comment on this.

No. It is unethical to with hold original certificates of candidates. The company can ask for the documents to verify them but not retain them as a security.

If there is written agreement by employee and employer to retain certificate by employer as security then it can be labelled as legal.

Generally, companies ask for original certificates from employees who handle cash. If this is not feasible, discuss it with your employer and convince them. It is not a legal requirement to collect originals from employees. These kinds of rules came into existence because some employees tend to deceive companies.
