As per THE EMPLOYEE’S DEPOSIT LINKED INSURANCE SCHEME, 1976
Employees will be covered under the scheme from the first day of their job.
There are no expulsions under the EDLI Scheme.
Note: The previous condition of completion of at least one year of the service for the contribution in EDLI has been debarred .

Dear Krishna,

You have not mentioned vital information - whether death occurred while in service or after leaving service. The Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Benefit is paid only for death while in service. If the service duration is 6 months, the benefit under EDLI will be proportionate, with a maximum benefit of Rs 6 lakhs.

Thank you.

Dear Amit and Srinath,

I am also confused and would appreciate your feedback. One person mentioned that EDLI can be claimed on the first day of the job, while another stated that a minimum of 6 months of service must be completed with the organization and the death should occur while on duty.

Therefore, what is the minimum duration required to claim the EDLI amount if an employee passes away while at work?

Thanks and Regards,

You seem confused because you have not thoroughly reviewed the EDLI Scheme. I recommend going through it at least once before raising any further queries.

It has been mentioned that EDLI claims can be made on the first day of the job. You may have misunderstood Mr. Amit's statement, "Employees will be covered under the scheme from the first day of their job," which is accurate.

No one has mentioned that six months of service need to be given to the organization.

An employee must be a member of the EDLI Scheme to be eligible for a claim. EDLI claims are paid to the nominee in the event of the death of a PF member while in service.

I hope this clarification clears up any confusion.
