Dear Sir/Madam,

My employer opened my EPF account in 2005, which was closed in 2011. I rejoined the institution in 2013, but now my employer is unwilling to continue my EPF account as my basic salary exceeds Rs. 15,000. However, I wish to continue my EPF account. What should I do?

Thank you,
rkj

Please let the forum know whether the EPF account is still active or if you withdrew the money in 2011. You mentioned that you rejoined in 2013, so from 2013 until 2017, was your employer not willing to continue your EPF account from 2017 or from 2013? Please elaborate. I have not understood your query at all, to be frank.

What do you mean by "My EPF Account closed in 2011" if you have already withdrawn your PF Amount? Your Employer is right in not covering you under EPF provided your EPF Wages were above Rs6,500/- in 2013. (Till Aug 2014, EPF Wage Ceiling was Rs6,500/-, from Sep-2014 increased to Rs15,000/-).

Further, it is surprising that from 2013 to 2017, you did not want to become an EPF member. But now you want to become an EPF Member voluntarily? Please take the help of a literate person and revert after reading posts by Mr. Saji.

Dear sir,

I am extremely sorry for the shortcomings in my query. Actually, my EPF account has been inactive since 2011, and I have not withdrawn any amount from it. After I joined in 2013 with a basic salary of over 15k, I requested the employer to activate my account, but to no avail. However, now due to some compulsion, he was opening the EPF accounts of employees. When I again requested him to activate my account, he gave the same reason.

Thank you,
rkj

Most of all, has your employer got PF Form 11 filled in from you? It is mandatory for every PF organization to get the form filled in from every employee.

View the form online. If you have not closed the earlier account, you should mention the details thereof in the form. After your declaration, it will be mandatory for the employer to make you a member and deduct PF contributions on Rs. 15,000. As I see it, he should have accepted you as a PF member from your Date of Joining in 2013.

Dear Mr. Jaisrk,

You continue to be an EPF member. Consequently, your employer needs to cover you with retrospective effect from 2013. However, contributions can be limited up to the wage ceiling, i.e., Rs6,500/- until August 2014 and Rs15,000/- from September 2014.

Please take up the matter in writing by providing your previous PF account number and the information furnished by honored members to your query. Your previous account cannot be activated. You have to be covered fresh with a new member ID and UAN. You can apply for the transfer of your previous PF account to a new PF account.

Please revert with developments for the information of all concerned. Best wishes.

Hi all,

I would like to know if my basic salary is more than ₹21,000, will I be eligible for PF contribution (12% of basic)? How much will my employer pay? Does an employer have a capping of ₹18,000? Please advise.

Regards, Sunita
