My company chairman called me and asked to accept the resignation of MD and proceed with the same for resignation formalities. Please clarify in detail, being HR, what is my liability toward MD's resignation and what compliances I will have to comply with regarding MD's resignation. However, I am very worried in this situation because I have never dealt with such a scenario like top brass resignations. Please guide me urgently.

If your organization is a company, then you cannot accept the resignation. The resignation can only be addressed to the secretary or chairman of the Board of Directors. Even if that person was the chairman of the board of directors, then it must be addressed to the board of directors. All other procedures of the company act need to be addressed.
