Hi,
I am working in an IT-based Pvt company in New Delhi. Suddenly, they have modified certain policies related to working hours and local conveyance.
According to the company, if an employee is going to the field (customer location) directly from home and the employee has to leave home at 8:00 AM to reach the customer place, in such conditions, when will the office working hours of that employee be calculated? From 9:30 AM (actual office time) or from 8:00 AM? Please help me out with this because the directors of the company are saying that there are no such rules for Pvt companies.

Dear Bhalla,
I am at a loss to understand what your query actually means. The working hours of any employee would be the normal stretch of time from their entry into the place of work until their exit, as already fixed. This can be monitored by the employer and recorded by some means. The time at which you leave your place of stay and the duration taken to travel to work is unrelated to the calculation of your daily working hours. The same applies to fieldwork, where you are allowed to go directly from your place of stay unless it is a far-off location. If you are required to first mark your attendance at the office and then proceed to the field, your working hours begin precisely at the time you are asked to record your presence.
