Hi Recruiters,
Please tell me how much importance you give to cover letters, as it is understood that the candidate needs a job and u need a candidate, do u read the cover letter seriously or just get to the resume and scrutiny it.
As major recruiters are graduates, freshers, whats their opinion on cover letters.
In naukri.com also there are two options one is with cover letter u can apply and other is without cover letter (quick apply).
I sometimes apply with cover letter / email my resume to recruiter or sometimes just quick apply, which is easiest and in one click u can apply to many jobs at a time, so the recruiter reading my application, would he give importance to cover letter or just go thru my resume and see it matches the Job or not.
Please give ur valuable inputs.

Hi Shaitaan :)
First of all let me tell you that its quite difficult for me to address you as Shaitaan.Wish I knew your name
When I used to work as an IT I used to go through the cover letter of only people with more than 5 yrs of experience as because for people who are applying for senior positions they usually put a synopsis of their entire profile in their cover letter which comes out to be handy for a recruiter
Frankly speaking I have never gone through any of the cover letters of freshers
I think it depends from recruiter to recruiter as to how much importance they give to cover letters
I hope this answers your query from my end
Thanks and Regards

Hi,
Again depends on person to person. Some people give attention to cover letter to know about resume quickly. Some recruiters are keen about to know the intension of prospect employee through cover letter. Again depends on person to person.

The importance of covering letter for me -
Hi,
I'll share with you what i did in real -
- good profile without covering letter .... i ask them to immediately write one and then hand it over to me.
- average profile without covering letter ... i put in in the pending list and then after the process it is used as a scribbling pad.
- poor profile without a covering letter .... straight to dust bin.
In all the cases I ask a covering letter and it's a must for me.
- now, once, a good profile without a covering letter - i asked him to write it immediately and handover to me - he argued - I tore it to pieces in front of him and said him that his interview is over ! Thanks. Thats VENU.
I need no supporters nor non-supporters. My view is down under in Hindi,
Shareer ko sunder kapde aur Resume ko sunder covering letter.

Hi,
I believe diplomacy is one of the major things that HR has to incorporate with, and I see no diplomacy in what you have done (provided you are not recruiting to the military). As the years have passed by the employers are starting to keep up the open door policy to the employees. Still strange, the applicant was arguing for having asked to make a cover letter. Seems the guy did not want the job. One of the best things a cover letter is supposed to do is to invite the reader to review his CV, so most of the time, this piece of paper is what gives the impression right. As for me, I have always followed a 3 step recruitment process, one being telecon with the applicant after reviewing his/her CV, second being a personal interview to assess the communication skills and attitude, third being the technical tests if needed. And so far, I can be sure that I have not recruited an applicant who did not fit in to our system. This is not to be taken as an offence to your comments, but this truly are my views which in no way is intended to hurt anyone personally.
Thanks and regards

It depends on a recruiter, how he/she give importance to the cover letters.
I personaly give importance to it. I read the cover letters of all the experienced profiles. It gives me a quick tour over the profile .

Hi! venu,
being the part of H.R industry u shud not react with people in this manner if they argue,u need to convince them, after all you also need a gud candidate as much as they need you.I really find this unbelievable that u let a gud candidate gp just because he was not writing a cover letter and that too in this manner.
Strange!!!
waise i never give that much importance to a cover letter if the profile is gud.
