Dear All,

Here is a press release published in The Hindu dated 13-03-2016 (please see the attached document). Shri Bandaru Datatriya, Union Minister, has announced that the ESI ceiling limit is likely to be enhanced shortly from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000.

1. Sir, such statements are generally found in newspapers/media occasionally after some intervals. You can see a similar subject has been discussed many times on this citeHR in the past. However, I understand that no draft notification for an amendment in the relevant ESI (Central) Rule has been issued by the appropriate government for comments from the individuals who would be affected by such an enhancement of the wage ceiling under the said Act.

2. Considering the recent initiatives of the appropriate government (such as making ESI optional or enhancing the coverage limit to 40 and above persons in respect of factories due to the enactment of the Small Factories Bill), I am doubtful whether the government will seriously take the initiative to enhance the wage ceiling under the said Act.
