Hello, all respected HR professionals,

I have 3 years of experience in BPO sectors as an HR recruiter. Now, in the professional area, I have switched over to a different sector (media). I have recently joined here as an HR Executive, but I am experiencing significantly less work pressure. At the end of the month, if anyone from the board of directors asks me about my salary justification, what should I do?

Hi Swati,

Why would they ask you for salary justification when they only offered you the job and the salary? I sometimes fail to understand how can somebody be paid based on this so-called lingo "work pressure." In my career, I never found a company that increased my salary because I was handling a lot of pressure.

No, no. Just get that "pressure attitude" off your head. BPO, I feel, is meant to get that into our heads. TAT, Quality, Customer satisfaction, Target (inbound/outbound), min calls (even if it's a holiday in the US, weird) and what NOT... pressure, pressure, pressure...

I must say you are lucky to get out of that BPO faster. Media has its own challenges, and you will get to know how challenging it is to work as an HR Executive in Media. Wait and Watch. Until that time, enjoy the honeymoon period. Good Luck.

Dear Swati,

No one will ask you for any justification as long as you complete your respective tasks that have been assigned to you. Assigning you responsibilities and tasks is the responsibility of your manager or the company, and completing them within the required time frame is your responsibility. Therefore, if you are efficient enough to finish them, no one will question you.

When it comes to work pressure, in a BPO sector, you can quantify your work, whereas in other sectors, especially in the role of an HR Executive, it can be challenging to quantify. The reason behind this is the difference in responsibilities. Gradually, you will realize that this role requires more mental effort than mere calculations.

There are more challenges ahead, but they will also bring enjoyment. All the best!

Hello Swati Sarkar,

Like Ukmitra & Sneha Joshi mentioned, when this company offered you this particular job at this CTC, don't unnecessarily pressurize yourself where there's no pressure on this count. Just focus on completing the tasks at hand in time.

However, please also note that the 'type' and 'scale' of pressures will always be different in different domains/sectors. While you had one set of pressures in BPO, you will have another here... if you haven't faced it so far, please rest assured that the pressures of a different kind will materialize sooner than later.

And that's the beauty of being in HR, where the challenges are varied on a larger scale and depth, unlike technical positions.

All the best.

Regards,
TS
