Expansion of ESIC Services

The government is in the process of providing ESIC services to establishments having fewer than 10 employees, and a committee has been formed to widen the scope of the facility. "Presently, ESIC coverage is given to establishments having 10 or more employees (20 or more in Maharashtra). Now, we are going to provide ESIC coverage for establishments having fewer than 10 workers. For this, a mechanism has to be developed. We have formed a committee to look into all aspects of it," Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a media briefing on ESIC schemes here today.

On a pilot basis, the proposal is to start in Delhi and Hyderabad by November 30, 2015.

The finance minister in the last budget has already stated that the government considers ESIC and PF to have more victims than beneficiaries. So compliance would be made voluntary. I don't think they will implement it for smaller firms.
