I am working as the hr executive of a company, as an individual member of the HR department. I am reporting directly to my director. working individually, is though a good experience, but in the initial level, i feel that it doesnt give a learning experience. there are still so many things, which I feel, I am not aware of, and I really need to learn them. Can someone please help me, in either finding an opportunity, where I get a chance to work under a senior member. or if someone guide me so that I could learn maximum even working individually.
Please help, as this is I feel the point of time I really want to learn as much as possible.

Dear Rupali,
Having seniors to guide is not necessary to learn the practice..
You want to improve your skills.. so better try at your level to achieve your dream..
See.. first look at your current system and compare it with other good organisational system.. then find out the Gap between these two.. likewise you may compare it some others too..
After study whether this system would be feasible in your organisation or not..?? because every good system can't ensure of his 100% success in every company..
Make different policies to improve the existing system.. see Human resources is what.. as much deep you go in the system you find more solutions.. And definitely preparing different systems and successfully implementation of the same in your organisation leads to your success..
And in my view.. this site is one of the best place to learn..

Views of Amit are very true.
I also experienced the same when I started my career. Having a senior person above you has both pros and cons. In my personal opinion it is better to work independently. Remember you cant select your boss ! The most important thing a good superior can do for you is enhance your knowledge by shariing his / her experiences. Otherwise, initiative, committment are to be developed by you only. And remeber, you have this site for sharing experiences and learning about new things.
One should leave an organisation only when all the learning opportunities and learning resources have been either exhausted or tried on. Know as many things from the organisation and you will love your job.
And make sure what you want to be - a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond.
Yes the best option is a big fish in a big pond :) but it will take some time to reach that stage.

Till yesterday, even I felt that it is better to work independently, as it gives a lot of scope to learn and explore. But I went for an interview yesterday, which made me realise that there is a long way for me to go yet. There are many things, which working independently feels that we know everything in our field...but its only when we work in a team, only then we understand and learn many new things.
But yes, am sure this site is an amazing site. I really need the guidance of guru's of citehr, seniors in this field, who, I feel, can teach me the max.......

Though i feel , i'm the only person suffer from this.. many of them in citehr , working individually in their HR Dept.

Both are sailing on the same problem.. First let clear with us, what are the task u have taken /completed/initialized/implemented in your company? How many staffs are working in your concern? what you have plan to implement in HR for your company in future?

Based on our management support, manpower, several departments only we (HR department) can work accordingly. suppose, a company have less than 10 employees, we can't initialise any HR policy or any HR software.

As of me, I'm working as HR Executive, for almost 1 year. In my company 25 staffs are working.. while joining in this company, i don't know what to do? Basically, i'm not from HR Background. I',m Bsc comp sci grad.. so, by full support and help form citehr friends , i'll get in to HR topic and feels me good.

Currently, I'm doing MIS Report generation, Payroll for every month in excel sheet, attandance sheet , recreation, company registration, creating an Salary account for all my staffs in axis bank, recruitment & selection, housekeeping, vendor management, bank work, offer letter, relieving letter, work certifcate , performance appraisal form , etc... step by step , i'm adding my job profile in HR.

I am in a company where we have 10 employees only. over here, my responsibilities include, recruitment and induction of employees, grievance handling, providing offer letters, increment and confirmation letters, relieving letters, exit interviews, performance management, MIS report generation, etc. But these are the things which are done as and when the need arises. IF someone asks about your daily routine as the HR in the company.......what do you answer. and these things are not done on daily basis. :shock:

Your first chage should be to a very good organisation. Even if you decide to change the organisation at this stage, make sure you go to the a very good organisation. Dont go for 'better than your current organisation'.
We all opt for anything that comes our way to start our career. But when it comes to first change, go to a far far better organisation. Again opting for whatever comes your way will slow down your future growth.

I myself want to get into a much much better organisation.....but I feel, big organisations usually hire people with around 2-3 years of experience, so i will have to wait for a long time for that. :(

i understood ur situation.Let me give u a example."once i a collage inauguration a renowned gentle man compared his experience to a drop in a ocean".
No one are born inteligents .Every day is a experience which teach us a lesson.
Its welcoming to hear that u r interested to explore the new things in HR.U see even if it is 10 people in a firm or more the HR activities will be the same but with slight variations.first learn the basics then based on the situation u can widen ur knowledge .

Hi Rupali !
Look at the bright sight ! Many a times our time is spent in doing administrative work for hundreds of employees we have to manage. In your case, you will not be spending time doing payroll processing, leave mgt, pf record updating etc. for hours and days. You will be able to concentrate on Development part of HR with all your time and energy.
