Dear Ahaoma,

KPI helps you to define your goals clearly and prioritize them. Your strategic goals are broader functional golas. What you would wish to achieve for your department after a certain period of time. This should fall in the ambit of the HR functions that you carry on. Policy level discussions, changes may under this area. Break down the daily tasks or operations into different heads like recruitment goals, Employee engagement initiatives, greivance procedures - keep the goals that you will set SMART-specific,measurable,acheivable,realistic and time bound.

Development goals are your efforts to develop your skills and knowledge in your work domain. Attending skills training, workshops, working in some other department etc are all relevant development goals. Again keep them SMART.

Project goals are always related to a specific project. Say you have a project to recruit, select and induct five new salespersons, then define the deliverables for this project. What are the key milestones in this project and what will enhance your credibility. Keep it SMART.

Hope I have helped you with my thoughts. Good wishes

Dear Raghavendra Marimuthu,
Thank you for your prompt response. I will take your suggestions and work on them.
Meanwhile, I need a training for the employees especially one that will channel their attitude to work, for instance we have inexperienced employees who are still having school hangovers, they need to be re-adjusted to real work life situations.
Please let me know what topics in HR that will benefit them.
Thanks once again
Ahaoma.

Dear Ahaoma,
The best training that you can give employees to gear them up or make them serious towards work is to put them under supervisors. Give them time bound activities to complete and monitor their work on a day to day basis. Classroom training will not help much in this stage.
