I am Nilesh from Pune.

My problem is as follows:

I am a BSc Chemistry graduate and MBA Marketing and Systems postgraduate, a 2003 passout. I have been switching jobs here and there due to inconvenience in high-pressure sales roles. The longest I have worked for any company is in an in-house marketing position in an equity advisory company. I am showing 4 years of experience on paper in this company. I want to permanently switch to non-sales roles. Can you please advise me on any courses where I can still climb the ladder and be successful in a non-sales profile? How about working as an analyst? Is it fine to change the domain at this juncture when I am 34? Kindly let me know about working as a Business Analyst or Market Research Analyst. Kindly let me know if you can help me.

Thanks and Regards,

Nilesh

Hi Nilesh,

Change in career has no age bar. The only thing that you must be sure of is that you need to be confident in what you do.

Don't give up just because of pressure to perform. I know certain companies just have targets that are impossible to achieve. But if you have the right strategy to prove that they are unreasonable; by doing so, you are actually performing an analyst job.

Courses are good but at the end of the day, it matters how good you are with figures, market study, and your own analysis. Nobody can teach these to you but yourself.

If you are inclined to in-house jobs and your current salary is good, try evaluating the gaps in your organization. It is my belief that a Good Sales team needs good sales support personnel. If you can add value to your team members by your research and giving them leads while sitting in the office, you can very well create a position for yourself as a "Business Coordinator" or call it an analyst if you may want to. Good luck.

By the way, the above is not just saying, I am also a BSc Chem without an MBA and currently working as a Business Planning Analyst in KSA. Nothing to boast about, but to give you hope that "where there is a will, there is a way". So, good luck.
