Hi,

I am an MBA student. This is a case study of organizational behavior. Please send me the solution. I have to submit it.

Case Study:

NP Software Technology was an MNC with headquarters in New York, keen to develop a design center in India. In 1998, when the Indian center in Bangalore was ready, the company sent its recruiting agency to select a Senior Manager (in charge of software and hardware groups) who would report directly to the Country Manager based in Bangalore. The recruiting agency recommended Mukesh, a 32-year-old B.Tech graduate from IIT Mumbai with 10 years of industrial experience, including handling foreign assignments, for the senior manager position. The core team from NP was impressed by Mukesh's performance at the interview and offered him the job.

Mukesh joined NP in June 1999. In the first six months after joining, Mukesh showed interest and actively participated in recruiting engineers for NP's Hardware and Software divisions. However, from early 2000 onwards, Mukesh's behavior started changing. This change was evident in the decisions he made. For instance, during meetings with new recruits, Mukesh dominated the conversation and did not encourage interaction among the new employees.

- Mukesh frequently expressed difficulty in providing clear directions and delegating tasks effectively to his subordinates.

- When the top management made strategic decisions to reorganize divisions, adopt new production technologies, and downsize the workforce, Mukesh struggled to implement the necessary changes. He often clashed with the Country Manager and failed to persuade his team about the transformations proposed by the top management.

- Subordinates sometimes bypassed Mukesh and sought clarification directly from the Country Manager about their tasks.

- Despite being advised by his superior to adjust his behavior for the company's and his own benefit, Mukesh took the feedback lightly. Eventually, he was asked to resign and leave NP Software Technologies.

Questions for Discussion:

1. Do you think it was wrong for Mukesh to join NP Software Technologies?

2. What suggestions can you offer Mukesh to help him modify his behavior?

Surbhi,

Write your answer to the case study and THEN ask the members here to have a look at it and make some suggestions on any matter you have missed. You will learn nothing by other people writing your assignments, and it is dishonest, to say the least. By all means, ask for help, but do the work first and then ask. If you are having problems with the assignment, talk to your lecturer or professor FIRST and seek their guidance on how to proceed.
