I think the industrial age brought the Factory Act when people started creating tools and utensils for their personal and professional use. The act may be amended by lawyers and attorneys as per requirements. The actual criteria you may have to see the Factory Act for the state. But minimum guidelines should be followed, especially in today's competitive environment where the relationship between employees and employers is more complex. Employers may pay you double money, but they expect double work and delivery to the client. If there are gaps, it means it's not happening! So, focus on the minimum and basics for each department alongside the Factory Act!

Dear Queriest,
Your query is not clear to me, but to tell you specifically based on my understanding of your query, the FA does not categorize any industry as such. Your login title indicates that you are a safety professional, and you may want to know about the different provisions under the FA specific to safety within industries.
If this is the case, please refer to sections 85 to 91 of the FA under Chapter IX, which deals with Special Provisions. Also, refer to the applicable rules under the same chapter. Upon reading this chapter, one can conclude that the FA categorizes industries/factories into:
i. Aid of power industry & non-aid of power industry;
ii. Public institutions maintained for purposes like education, training, research, or reformation, etc.;
iii. Industries/factories scheduled based on dangerous operations, hazards, certain diseases, etc.
I am unsure if this is the information you were seeking, or if you had a different query.
Thank you.

Dear Keshav Korgaonkar,
Thank you for your reply.
This question was asked by an HR Manager during my interview. He asked me, "Do you know the categories of industries as per the Pollution Control Board?" I answered. Following that, he asked me again, "Do you know the categories of industries as per the Factories Act?" I responded, "I am not aware."
This is the context of the question. There are three categories of industries as per the PCB, namely Red, Orange, and Green based on their potential for causing pollution. I presumed there might be something related to the Factories Act as well. Unfortunately, I forgot to inquire about it during the interview, hence why I am posting this question here.

Dear S/Shree Sundar/Korgaonkar,
The Factories Act categorizes hazardous industries separately from others. In addition to that, the safety requirements have been specified for each type of industry in the Factory Act Rules.

Dear KK,
I hope you are doing well. I did mention the same but in an elaborate way. I also discussed the different schedules for dangerous operations, hazards, certain diseases, etc., in which various safety requirements are specified. I hope we are on the same page.

Dear seniors,
Does the Shop Act have any interface with the Industry Act? Can I have a shop in a factory land area or a factory in a shop land area? In both cases, what is the effect on retired persons? Do they hire or fire young manpower?
Thank you,

Dear Umalme,
The Shop & Establishment Act oversees specific aspects of the labor deployed therein, such as leave, welfare, and other service matters. Additionally, shops are covered under other labor legislations wherever they are included in its scope. You will have to raise specific queries regarding the aspects you would like to be examined.
