I had worked with a captive unit for 40 days (probation period) and left the job without intimation. Now I am receiving postal mails from this company at my address stating that Rs. 50,000 is recoverable from me as full and final settlement. The company warns that if I fail to submit the amount, legal steps will be taken against me. I am very confused and tense about what should be done. Please advise.

Dear Romana,
First of all, don't panic.
Recovery can be done in two cases. The first case may be that your full & final settlement amount is coming as payable, which means it comes as recoverable. The second case is that there may be a bond or any condition signed by you during your employment, perhaps through your appointment letter, stating that if you leave the company voluntarily, then you need to pay a certain amount to the company as compensation.
So, first, let's gather details of your Full & Final settlement or request a breakdown of the said amount. Ask how this amount occurred.
If any of the above is correct and the company has followed all the rules, then you will have to pay the same.

Hi Tushar,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's the Full and Final payment as per the company letter, which has to be paid by me. I sent my resignation on the very next day of leaving to the company HR from my personal Email ID. Now, after 6 months, they are sending me these recovery letters. I don't want to pay this amount. What could be the way out?
Thank you.
