Hi, I run a training firm in Kochi, Kerala. I am planning to organize a one-day seminar for MBA students, entrepreneurs, and business development professionals in Cochin. Can anyone suggest some topic ideas which are new and relevant to this target group?

Dear Vishu,

All the very best for your attempt. I have some ideas to point out for your program:

- For every youth across India, there is a significant interest in starting a business (working professionals also).
- You should explain the growth of each industry, such as BPO/ITES, small-scale industries, import, and export.
- There are numerous government schemes available for business people and entrepreneurs (like Rajiv Gandhi Youth). If explained clearly, it will be a victory for your seminar.
- Time management
- Include some basic budgeting for low-level businesses (like soap manufacturing, import licensing, education).
- Empower entrepreneurs in India
- Include some third-party stories, like domestic and international business strategies and growth.

In my opinion, I have mentioned a few points. It may be useful for you. All the best.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm looking for a more specific single topic that can be explored in some depth, not too generalized. For example, "Guerrilla marketing" would be preferable to "Sales & Marketing" as a topic.

Hi Vishnu,

If you are looking to address a joint group of business students, entrepreneurs, and business developers, then you certainly need a topic that is meaningful to all three categories. A topic like "Business Networking" may be meaningful to them.

Hope this helps, and all the best.

Warm Regards,

Dear Vishnu,

I would like to suggest that your seminar lectures should focus on the immediate future and current affairs, such as the post-parliament elections. Discuss how the industry, entrepreneurs, and professionals should align with the promises and challenges presented by the new central government and its impact on India's business future, policies, and strategies. With political parties divided into multiple fronts, a hung parliament and various polarizations are expected. The industrial sector faces a crucial test in the first year of a new government, particularly in the 2014 fiscal year. This period could either make or break the industry. Therefore, the seminar should address these uncertainties in the short term and provide guidance on long-term strategies. While challenging, developing course materials for such a subject is essential for the faculty, guest lecturers, and industrialists involved.

On a positive note, alongside traditional subjects like BPO, IT, and infrastructure, it would be beneficial to include emerging topics such as advancements in the Space Sector – encompassing satellite and aviation sectors (excluding air traffic), Chandrayan and Mangalyan missions, scientific progress in health tourism, the insurance and service sectors, as well as alternative and unconventional energy sources. These topics are crucial for policymakers aiming to reduce budgetary deficits and stabilize stock markets. Additionally, addressing issues in Education and Medical Business sectors is essential. How does online marketing impact retailers, and what promises or threats does it pose for the future? Given the breadth of topics discussed, perhaps extending the seminar to two days could allow for more in-depth exploration.

I wish you the best for the success of the seminar.
