Dear all safety experts,

Every year, we celebrate Safety Week with slogans, posters, quizzes, drama plays, exhibitions, and more. I request everyone to suggest new innovative ideas - something different, thoda hatke - that will keep the Safety Program fresh and alive.

Think creatively, do not just keep it in your mind. Publish your ideas on our Citehr Safety Forum; other members will surely add value, and we can all benefit from something unique, thoda hatke, to keep the Safety Program fresh and alive.

Thanks,
Abhay

Dear Mr. Abhay,

Thank you for your excellent thoughts and for your post.

All the activities you have mentioned in the above post are our basic activities. Every day, new ideas come for improvement in health, safety, and the environment.

We are implementing a new activity for improvement and education for workers and staff called "Safety Officer for One Day." We have written all workers' names on individual slips and placed them in a box for a lucky draw.

Every morning, after the safety prayer, the Project Manager, Plant Head, or Safety HOD opens a slip for "One Day Safety Officer" from the workers' side. The selected worker will act as a safety officer for one day and provide observations to the Safety In-charge. Each worker will have the opportunity to be the safety officer for one day only. If they encounter any problems, they can directly discuss them with the HOD Safety or Area In-charge Safety.

After six months, we observed that over 180 workers have developed habits of working within our system, following all safety rules, and advising others, including new workers.

Therefore, I believe this is a regular activity for improving health, safety, and the environment. If possible, we can apply this to all our construction sites and plants.

Safety at the workplace and its practices imbibe safety habits in workers, mostly restricted to their workplaces only. In general, I have noticed that safety habits in many workers are not displayed elsewhere in society at large. This means workers just observe safety practices at work because it is mandatory at their workplace. I suggest experts to induct some methods to help people realize the real value of safety through picturing/showcasing realistic events, incidents, and accidents which directly affect the person in terms of understanding how precious life is. Not only this, let workers know the aftereffects of certain tragedies that have occurred to someone due to non-adherence to safety in general.

People should understand safety as: Safety is not merely a professional attribute to learn and follow; it should really be understood as an essence of life.
