Hi,

The company is not paying the employee the salary for the month of December 2013. They assured that the salary would be credited by January 16, 2014, but they have not paid yet.

Please suggest what we can do.

Neha

I think you are still continuing in the same company. Your case is not isolated, but many private companies in India are delaying the disbursement of salaries to employees on one pretext or another. If you raise your voice, you may be noted and removed for the slightest cause. I suggest requesting or asking for an advance, citing your financial difficulties. If you are no longer with that company and they are not settling your dues, you can approach the Labour Commissioner with a written complaint.

Hi Neha,

If your company has not paid you for the month of December 2013 salary, it doesn't mean they have denied to pay. It is not specifically for you but for all employees of the organization. There might be an organizational financial problem or crisis because of a slowdown in the market, as stated by Mr. Pon above, which is affecting you and other employees of your company. Also, you must not forget that your company has not denied to pay; in fact, they assure you that the due salary amount will be credited soon.

Regarding the options you provided in your case poll, they are seriously not acceptable to me.

1) Do violence

This is a dangerous and unethical step that can not only affect you financially and professionally but also impact your employer and the careers of other employees. Individuals considering such actions are a danger to the community and the professional world.

2) Take legal action

Legal action may be the right option, but it should be considered only if you find yourself in a similar situation that necessitates it. This may not be the right time to pursue legal action, considering the financial situation of your employer. Supporting your employer during this challenging time, though difficult on a personal level, may be necessary.

What would you do if your friends, relatives, and those you trust are not supportive or leave you alone during your difficult times? Consider that.

3) Keep waiting

It is advisable to wait for some more time, as time passes and circumstances may change.

4) Look for a new job

While it is not discouraged to explore new job opportunities for learning and growth, individuals must also consider their present work experience and career path. Making frequent job changes, especially for those with less than three years of total work experience, may not be necessary in situations like the current one, which is manageable.

In both professional and personal lives, learning, growth, and development are important factors to consider at every stage or situation.

Lastly, if you find a good opportunity while waiting for the situation in your company to improve, do not miss the chance. Only take appropriate steps to address your problems when necessary and avoid resorting to violence.

In conclusion, never consider or attempt actions involving violence.
