Dear All,

Good Evening! Maybe my situation is a little weird, but I really want all of you to help me with it.

I recently joined a company located in Raipur (C.G) as an HR executive. Before I proceed further, I honestly want to tell you all one thing: I am just a B.Com (specialization in CRM) student and have no clue about HR policies and other stuff. However, I'm pursuing an MBA in HR from Symbiosis (distance mode), which I think will be of little help only. In addition to this, I have landed in a company that does not adhere to any rules and regulations. I always wanted to get into this department, and I really think I can do my best in this field. But I am here in a place where even payroll has its own definition. Changing the company is not a solution because in Raipur, work culture is not as developed as in another place. I have worked before in companies like HSBC and GE Capital, and hence I know how good HR policies and procedures are. I really want to learn and change the HR functioning way over here. However, I need to do it by myself as my boss is not helping me out (this is how it is in Raipur, unfortunately).

So, firstly, I want all of you to suggest how to learn the HR policies and all related forms and acts, etc., and from where to start. If anyone can help me with the list of the same, it would be a great help.

Secondly, I would be grateful if anyone can suggest to me how to excel in this field. Hope you all understand :)

Thank you.

Dear Tripti,

"It is said that two things in this world which we do not get of our choice:

1) PARENTS
2) BOSS"

So forget about what type of boss you have got, just concentrate on your learnings and career. Along with professional qualifications, one should have the tactics to deal with the environment, culture, and especially the bosses (for the person who is in HR).

Right now, just notice the positive points of your boss and try to learn how he/she has come to that post. As far as HR policies and rules are concerned, whenever any task comes to you and confuses you in terms of policies, just refer to the relevant act or confirm the same by the community (for our knowledge and learning). But perform the task according to the culture, environment, and instructions of your boss.

Firstly, complete your MBA and try to correlate the topics with your day-to-day office module. It will help you a lot. Overall, Google is here for your confusions and clarifications on any topic.

Go ahead; you are in the right field, i.e., HR.

Hi Tripati,

Do not depend on your boss. Now that you are on CiteHR, if you have any doubts or are seeking help or knowledge, you can take advantage of this site. It will assist you in the best way possible. You cannot expect your boss to share knowledge with you unless necessary. However, you must seek his permission before implementing any policies or rules.

Best of luck.

Regards,
Supriya
