Dear Sir,

I am working with a reputed organization where my office timing is from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. However, every evening, my Reporting Manager (R.E) comes to the store where I work and instructs me to stay until 9:00 PM as he will also be staying there. When I questioned my Reporting Manager about the reason for staying beyond my official hours, he responded with abusive language, stating that I should remain in the store as long as he is there. I have observed that my Reporting Manager does not engage in any official work after 6:30 PM. Instead, he spends his time on Facebook and chatting with friends until 9:30 PM before heading home.

I am puzzled as to why I am required to stay in the store when there is no work for me after my scheduled duty hours, especially considering that there is no overtime compensation provided. During our training, we were informed that our daily work hours end at 7:00 PM and that we need not worry if the store remains open later.

Can my Reporting Manager compel me to stay for such extended hours without any productive tasks assigned to me? Is there any recourse available to me under labor laws? I seek your advice on how best to address this situation.

Thank you for your attention and guidance.

You can directly approach the HR regarding the same and explain your problem in a polite manner, not as a complaint. Simply state that you are willing to stay longer if there is any pending work, but if there is no work, please allow me to leave after finishing my working hours.
