Dear Srimuppalla,
Please find the attached file. Similar calculations are okay for industries. Things will get complicated when you want to calculate the exact working hours, including overtime of employees, and timing deductions of employees who were on leave, etc. There's a lot involved.
It's better to track the exact working hours with the help of an electronic punching card or let the individuals handling manpower (mainly HR/ER/IR) calculate the man-hours worked and provide the data to the safety personnel for further safety rate calculations.
Hope this helps.

Dear Dipil,
I am just asking, we have a hardline test in our lab. The requirement for that test is to hang 50 kg weight on the sample. Our employee lifted a 50 kg solid weight manually and hung it on the sample. My question is, is it safe to lift 50 kg weight, or do you have any other ideas about that?
Thank you.

Dear Srimupalla,
I give you a simpler way to calculate the actual working days in a year for a given year. Just follow the procedure, and you will get 100% accurate results.
You must be having a system of salary/wages payment through a payroll calculated by a computerized system. If yes, you can easily separate the actual working days, total overtime hours/8 to arrive at the working man-shift on Overtime. Get a list of normal/physical working days and man-shifts worked on overtime. If you have a system of working on Holidays/Sundays shown separately for payment purposes, add this figure too. By adding all three figures for the period in question, you can arrive at the actual working days in a given year. To calculate available working days in a given period, subtract Sundays and Holidays from total days available. Thus, you can determine the actual man-shifts worked for any number of employees.
Regarding man-days lost on account of accidents, you can now easily calculate it through ratio analysis.
Easy, right?
Best wishes,
