Dear All,
I am working in an IT company in Chennai. Two years back, I joined my current company, B. I have an offer with a new company, C, now. When I tried to contact my first company, A (where I worked for three years), for references, the contact numbers are not working. I visited company A, but another company is currently operating there. I can provide my manager's (who is currently working in a different company) number for reference, with whom I am still in touch. However, I want to know how I can trace or find out if the company is actually closed or if they are operating in some other location or address.
Can you please help with this issue? Is it possible to trace the current address of company B or its closure date? This information will help me provide the accurate status to the HR of company D.
Thank you.

There seem to be some typos, as you have mentioned 4 companies: A, B, C, and D. If you are with company B after working in company A and have a job offer from Company C, where does company D fit in?
Are you in touch with your manager who had worked in Company A but is now working in another company? If so, have you asked him what happened to company A?

Yes, it's a typo. Instead of Company C, I mentioned it as Company D. Sorry.
I have checked with my manager who worked there with me in Company A, but he too left Company A after 2 months from the time I left. So he also doesn't have any idea about the current status.
Due to some reasons, my manager is not in touch with anyone in Company A. I found him via LinkedIn for reference.

Hello Shahidnazir,
If Company A is a Private/Public Limited Company, then you could go to the website of ROC (Registrar of Companies) and check the present status easily. If it is a small outfit, then there could be a problem tracing it. In that case, you can inform Company C that the company no longer exists. Check with your earlier manager to see if he is okay with providing his reference, and you could use his name as a reference.
All the best.

Does the company not have a website where you could find their address? Some small IT companies have been acquired by other companies. In that case, you could Google the name of the company to check it out, in case a press release has been issued regarding the company. The salary would have been paid through a bank. You could possibly contact the bank manager, and he could let you know the status of the company, since most companies have a banking relationship that goes beyond salary remittance. Hope you find them.
