Greetings seniors! I would be helpful if anyone answers me on the following queries:

1. What's the purpose of an experience letter and a salary slip?
2. How does the employer scrutinize it?
3. Will salary components' percentages vary from company to company or not? What are they?

1. Experience Certificate gives a clear picture of your previous designation/roles and your related field experience. Companies will normally look for the same when you attend an interview for a new job. It would definitely add value to your profile.

2. A salary slip will provide clear direction for the employer to make decisions about your CTC for a new assignment. It plays a vital role in the CTC fixation process. HR will not rely solely on your word regarding CTC; they will base their decision on the documents provided.

3. In my opinion, both documents are very important for a person to negotiate a wage increase.

4. CTC components may vary from company to company. The following are some components of CTC: Basic, HRA, Medical, Educational Allowances, Periodicals, Uniform Maintenance Allowances, and Transport Allowance. These components may also vary among companies.

Hi Vidhya,

With regards to your first query, I would like to share with you that an experience letter is a document that ensures the person bearing the letter has experience with a particular organization or company for a certain duration of time. Furthermore, I would like to add that we need experience letters from previous employers to show "progressive" experience from our previous organization.

A salary slip is nothing but a document that provides details of your salary during a specific period in any organization. For example, it includes days present, days absent, basic earnings, other allowances, deductions for taxes, and other dues. Usually, the salary slip format breaks down the gross earnings, deductions, and net earnings of the employee.

You are required to show this salary slip in any organization if you join that company as a means of documentation to demonstrate the salary you were receiving in the past.

Thank you, Ms. Supriya and Mr. Kannan, for your kind information that you have shared.

I just want to clarify that right now I do not have the salary slip from my previous job due to maternity leave I took a break. Somehow, I missed my salary document, but now I want to search for a new job in a new company. Will the organization consider me or not? In what way can I convince them? I am an MBA in HR/Finance with over 5 years of experience as an HR executive. What average salary can I expect?

Hi,

You can contact your previous employer or accountant and ask them for your salary slip. You can explain the situation, stating that you need your last monthly salary slip. They should not refuse as you were previously employed there. If your previous organization fails to provide you with the salary slip, you can explain the current situation and facts to your new organization.

Furthermore, I would like to add that salary criteria vary from company to company. However, with good experience, you can expect a suitable salary.
