Dear All,

I have a question regarding a joining offer in my hand. I recently got selected by an MNC and decided to join the company. After receiving my offer letter via email, I accepted the offer on email.

I am supposed to join the company after completing my notice period and to submit the signed copy of the offer letter on the date of joining.

In the meantime, I appeared for another interview and have received an offer from them as well. My dilemma is that I want to join this second company.

1. They are offering me a 20% hike, whereas the first company has offered me a 5% hike.

2. The second company's office is closer to my home.

My question to the august panel is:

1. Do I have any obligation towards the first company to join them since I have confirmed them via email?

2. I intend to decline the first offer via email and inform the HR accordingly, but can they take any action or am I liable for any action even though I have not signed any offer as of yet? I have given an email confirmation of offer acceptance.

3. Please guide me as I want to make the best decision. I wish to accept the second offer in hand.

Thanks.

My question to the august panel is:

1. Do I have any obligation towards the 1st company to join them since I have confirmed them via email? No, you do not have the obligation to join them, but inform them so that they can offer the position to another candidate who has been shortlisted.

2. I intend to decline the 1st offer via email and inform the HR accordingly, but can they take any action against me or am I liable for any consequences even though I have not signed any offer yet? I have provided email confirmation of accepting the offer. No, you are not liable for any action unless it is explicitly stated in the offer letter. Please inform the HR well in advance so that they can proceed to recruit someone else for the position.

3. Please guide me as I want to make the best decision; I wish to accept the second offer I currently have. Since you wish to accept the second offer, we wish you all the best.

Go ahead as per your choice. No action can be taken by any one based on offer letter but may blacklist you for future consideration, if any. Pon

Hi, You can send mail to HR of first company that you are not joining the company due to personal circumstances. And you are not liable for any action. You are free to take your own decision. Deepali
