I am working as an Executive-HR in a manufacturing company where my role also involves looking after Great Place to Work (GPTW) activities related to my company. Currently, there are not many GPTW initiatives in progress, but I am keen to learn about the activities that need to be carried out for GPTW and how to assess whether these activities have been effectively implemented.

I would appreciate practical insights from everyone on this subject.

Dear Franidhar,

If it's a manufacturing set-up, you need to look at the availability of basic infrastructures for all classes of employees. You need to introduce HR activities through which employees feel a sense of belongingness to their employer and enjoy working with them. The best idea is to ask your employees; I am sure there would be some ideas that may be implemented immediately, and some could be further explored. The Great Place to Work (GPTW) concept is simple: when an employee proudly shares their feelings about working in their organization with others. It could be positive or negative, but it indicates where you stand.

You could start by implementing simple employee engagement activities, whether small or significant. These activities may include wishing employees on their birthdays (sending personalized SMS), celebrating anniversaries, organizing small birthday celebrations, providing regular training and collecting feedback, organizing farewell and new employee welcome events, offering flexible working hours, celebrating festivals, giving small awards or recognition for long tenure like a five-year term, creating an in-house magazine and inviting contributions for it, and celebrating the annual day. These activities help in attracting and engaging employees.
