Hi All,
I have been in the HR field from the past 1.5 yrs. My problem is that I'm unable to think out of box and do something which is unexplored by me in this area. Though I have been doing good in my regular work like Recruitment, Attendance tracking, Assisting in payroll, Grievance Resolution, Performance management of new entrants etc.. I still feel there is something more that I can offer in terms of work that I do. I have even gone through many recent HR trends that the big firms are following but the problem is they all look good in books when it comes to implementation part, questions again crops up like how to start, where to start etc..
I certainly feel these things will be part of every ones lives at some time or the other in their career.
Just would like to get suggestions on how to over come this issue tactfully from my HR buddies.

Hello,
You have put your challenge as how to be more creative in Job.
I honestly feel that its really not a Rocket science, but yes, if we strongly wish to do something productive, then surely we get creative ideas. Even a small idea is important. We need to see how we can do the same work in other way, we need to try it out. Such ideas may come up in mind at any time.
For e.g. in case of recruitment, we always require some kind of innovative source, every time same strategy to recruit persons is not useful but we need to find out other sources. Deep thinking is the solution for that but in right direction. Even interacting with HR persons will help out.
Thanks.

Dear Starkeynair,
A HR is considered to be knowledgable and experienced in any field he is in and any activity he does. HR is often looked up and admired coz of the abilities and skills that he posses. He should be required to be decisive as an HR for possesing the deep assertiveness, people skills and immense charismatic views. Your posting says that you desire to prove the ability as an eligible HR.
I may give you certain tips, try them out and see if you can keep adjacent by your thoughts:
- Communicate effectively - which means understand the situation and get in & out of surroundings. Prepare a snag list.
- Make sure you make yourself comfortable with large group and small audience
- Be assertive but not disgreeable
- Empathize and be a good listner.
Check with these and I'm sure you will find yourself hailing something innovative and tremondous. Good Luck!

Hi

In my view you are getting overwhelmed by the plethora of ideas that are floating around be it in text books, seminar papers, HR Magazines etc. While you are keen to implement changes partly to keep yourself distracted from the monotony of the routine, partly to add value to your profile and partly to enhance your own knowledge and personal growth you are facing the beginner’s dilemma of choosing a specific area. Your inhibition is again due to the fact that you are not sure if you are empowered, you’re apprehensive of successfully implementing the changes and you are not sure which arena will give best results.

My suggestion to you is to jot down the various possibilities that occur to you as worthy of implementation under some broad categories as under ( the examples given may not relate to your corporate but are only illustrative in nature)

- enhancing MIS reports and value added reporting e.g work on a HR dashboard

- cost saving changes eg. finding alternative cheaper recruitment sources

- time saving ideas e.g automating SMS alerts for those who have cab pick ups

- revolutionary thoughts e.g automate field force reporting

- implementing user friendly innovations e.g. strategic location of vending machines

- ideas eliminating duplication and wastage eg. having a dedicated printer with one side used stationary for draft prints

Now that you have organized your possibilities into broader categories focus on those ideas that you believe are more easily implementable from cost perspective, ready management support and utility angle.

The key is not to merely think but to begin. This is possible only if you have the right motivation and you can visualize a successful implementation. Once you begin and you let your motivation power your drive you will soon gather momentum.

Best Wishes
