Hi, my name is Sunita. I am currently pursuing an MBA in HR. However, I am currently employed in tele sales as a sales coordinator. I am considering whether I should change my job or continue with it until I complete my MBA. Can you provide some guidance on this decision? Thank you.

Sunitha,

When you are specializing in HR, my suggestion is to (as suggested by my friend psrath) to take up an HR-related job. Sales, in general, and tele-sales, in particular, will tie us down when we like or involve very much in that. One will seldom develop interest to switch over to another field. I know this doubt has already cropped up in your mind lest this question would not have arisen at all!!

All the best to you,

Hi Sunita,

I appreciate all the replies.

My suggestion is to continue with your job as you are pursuing an MBA in HR.

HR is such a field where you need knowledge of everything, and this experience will help you a lot.

By that time, study a 360-degree view of HR because once you start looking for a job in HR without completing your degree, you may only land a recruiter position in a consultancy, which is similar to telecalling. In the HR field, you need to have both practical and theoretical experience. Starting in a consultancy is good for a start, but I would always suggest gaining knowledge in all aspects of HR. It will benefit you greatly. If you begin your HR job now, you might get pigeonholed into one area like Admin, Recruitment, Training & Development, or Compensation. So, while continuing with your current job, please concentrate on each HR topic, even minor ones. Identify your expertise and interest in HR sub-topics, and then start your career in HR. Stay connected with Citehr, read posts to gather valuable information, and discuss any challenges you face.

Best of luck for your career.
