If, in case, any employee who is in the probation period takes leave for 1 or 2 months for a genuine reason and rejoins, should we have to calculate that 2 months in probation? In other words, will he/she be on probation for 8 months in this case or the normal 6 months probation?

Please let me know. I am waiting for a reply.

Dear Ms. Seema,

In my opinion, if an employee rejoins your organization, the probation period will remain the same, at six months, as he/she may need to start his/her work from the beginning. Some companies also have the option to extend the probation period for employees for the same reason, up to eight months.

Thanks,

No employee is entitled to take leave during the probation period. He or she can only take sick leave. In exceptional cases, the company may allow an employee to take leave; however, in such circumstances, the probation will get extended by the number of days of leave taken.

For example, if a person has taken leave for one month and his probation period was of 6 months, then it will become 7 months.

I agree with Mr. Sanjay and Mr. Pramod. Any leave during probation as per the Leave Policy is Unpaid Leave. However, leave for genuine reasons allowed at the discretion of management will extend the probation period by the number of days it is availed.

We in our organization also extend the probation of the employees who avail leave during probation by the number of days it is taken.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your guidance. I am also facing the same problem. I have recently joined a pharma company, but the previous HR is granting leave to employees during the probation period. However, now that I have ceased granting such leaves, they are arguing about the previous practice.

What can I do? Please suggest.
