Hi all,
I want to know if a person working in a pvt. firm, who has got only his temporary ID certicate for ESI and not his smart card, resigns from his job and joins another company after 2 months can avail the benefits of ESI. The said person does not have a smart card. The ESI office does not have biometrics or photo of him and his dependents. How should he proceed? Does he need to apply again for ESI or just go to an ESI branch office with the old insurance number and get biometrics and photo of him and his family. One has to get the temporary ID certificate attested from his employer. Since now he is not working with his previous employer, what he should do now?
Thanks.

In the new company the IP would be covered under ESI scheme from day one. At the time of joining itself, he should have handed over the copy of temporary card issued by the previous company for getting continuity of contribution recorded in ESIC. However, now as he would be having his Temporary card from the old company, he can approach the ESI branch office and dispensary along with the Temporary card from the old company available with him and also new temporary card and ESI Form 37 certified by the new company, to record the payment of contribution in the new company. He can apply for smart card through the new company.

This is a mistake the HRs often make when a new person comes. Now, you can again register the same employee with the old registration number and start remitting the contributions in respect of that employee in that number only. When you start registering a new employee, the system will display by default "already registered and if you continue that by entering the (old) number and date of joining your company, the details will come in the page. That is enough. You don't need to make any other entries unless there is any correction required.
For benefits, he should use the same card which was issued earlier. There is no temporary id card for such employees. Temp. Id cards are used by employees who are getting covered for the first time.
For transferring the amount remitted to the new account generated to the old number, you will have to write to ESIC and do manual exercise as they direct.

Agreed with MAdhu T.K. that after completing the joining formalities please ensure that employee hasn't esic card previously if he has please make sure that previous number should be carried forward so that benefits of the same should be enjoyed.
