Hey seniors,
Would appreciate healthy & constructive discussion…
I am speaking on many behalf…as many are in same boat…
We, MBA (HR) from average B-Schools & are working in Consultancies (8 months-1 year) with low packages see no growth in future..
We are feeling that HR is just the Recruitment & Selection: - taking requirements from clients, searching job portals, finding candidates & placing them. Competing with each other for billing….Our job has become monotonous..
Is this true???? Is this is the only thing we have in HR????? Is there anything else we can do to grow ourselves???? Is corporate providing & experiencing something different????
No intentions to hurt anybody's emotions..

Hi Shefali,

I was in the same mood one year back. I belong to a consultancy background only and did the same things which you mentioned. Now, by God's grace and by some luck, I am in HR in one of the leading KPOs here. It's no longer just recruitment; other things follow as well! There are two of us in HR handling an employee base of 115.

But one thing I assure you is that Recruitment makes HR happen. You will experience this in the coming years once you move into HR. Generalist HR and Strategic HR are two different things.

So, I suggest not worrying too much! Wait for your turn! Be prepared for that! Browse jobs for you and make healthier relationships with your existing clients as well. If you are handling any non-IT positions like HR manager/HR executive, that would be great enough!

Best of luck,
Bharat

Hi, you at least did MBA (HR) from an average B-School. I didn't even complete my MBA and had just started pursuing my PGDHRM from Symbi distance learning but got an offer from an MNC as an HR trainee for 1 year in Generalist HR. I have just completed my training and finished my PGDHRM. Now, I am looking for an HR job myself. Even though I received many opportunities for recruiting equal to or more than my current CTC, I did not accept them as I did not want to focus solely on recruiting.

Since you have an MBA in HR, you should not think that there is only recruitment in HR. You have done an MBA, and you know you are working in consultancy, so your profile would be nothing more than recruitment. However, there is much more in HR, which you probably studied during your MBA.

As you are from New Delhi, according to your profile, you have many opportunities there compared to what I could have. It's better to think why you joined consultancy and search for an HR function that interests you.

Goodbye, Ravi
