Dear Seniors, I am interested know How we can reduce to minimum the deduction of ESI from Gross wages of Security guards ? (Since most security guards resist deductions under this head.)

It is ill-advised that employees desist from deductions for ESI. Nowadays, super-specialty treatments are being funded by ESIC through private hospitals if the employees have completed a minimum 6-month contribution period and continue to contribute. Generally, security guards are elderly people who cannot engage in other work, and for them, ESI benefits are beneficial.

Dear Venkatraghavanm Ji,

Thanks, we are not against ESI deductions. I just want to know under what headings the deductions can be exempted. For example, washing allowance, etc.

Dear Karthi,

Please use this link of ESIC Chennai regarding wages and non-wages: http://esichennai.org <link updated to site home>.

Most of the employees feel that the treatment given at ESIC dispensaries is not up to the mark. Although there are many benefits that IPs can avail, such as super specialty hospitals and many tied-up hospitals in the near vicinity, the administrative channels are not so smooth.

Something needs to be done here because the percentage of IPs using the ESI is very low compared to the total number of IPs enrolled. Furthermore, the amount given to the State Govt per each IP is enhanced.

Please get back to us for further clarifications.
