I have just enrolled in a PG Diploma program in T&D from ISTD because of my special interest in T&D. The prospectus says once you finish this program, you become a certified trainer with the Ministry of HRD.
Not what I would like to know from people who have done this course and who know about it is, "What exactly does it mean to become a certified trainer with the Ministry of HRD?" In the sense, what implications does this course have/can have on the career of an HR personnel, and what possibly can you look at in terms of a career once you're through with it.

Arpita,
It only means that you can work as a trainer anywhere as this ISTD program is recognized by the government and the Ministry of HRD. This program would be helpful to add spice to your CV; although it is a diploma program, your academic profile would be enhanced. For example, this diploma might be helpful for becoming a corporate trainer or something similar, and ISTD itself is involved in corporate training. You can get in touch with the members of the chapter you belong to, i.e., as per region (state and city).
Hope your doubts are clear. Feel free to ask in case of any more queries.
Regards,
Chaitali.

Yes, David, I have received my course material. Are you a case of result awaited or something like that? I think you should call the office. Maybe there's some document missing because of which they are not sending you the material. For example, I got my material only when I submitted a copy of my online mark sheet but haven't got the roll number yet. I will get that only when I submit a copy of my final mark sheet or a provisional certificate before September, I think. So, you too, hurry. It's getting very late. Call them in the office. You have the number, right? or else, check out their site. All the best.

Hi Chaitali,
Great! You have cleared all the papers. I hope you complete your project with flying colors.
Chaitali, what I would like to know is, what level or quality of answers are expected in the response sheet and in the final papers? Do you think referring only to the course material is enough, or will we need to check out more books?
You know, the normal perception about correspondence courses is that you study for 1-2 days and you crack it. I have never done any kind of correspondence course, so I am really thinking, do I have to work as hard as we do in our regular college or MBA, or just be normal?
Basically, how seriously do I take this course and prepare for the final papers?
Let me ask you once again, do you think referring only to their books for the final term would be fine? If there's anything else that you would like to share about it, please do.
Thanks in advance. I will look forward to your support.
Thanks,
Arpita

Hi Chatali,
I'm Neha, new to this forum. I'm doing an MBA from Delhi and just stepped into the 3rd semester. Currently, I'm undergoing training in an IT company and handling the recruitment process. I am interested in joining and members have told me about ISTD. Chatali, could you please provide more information about this? I want to pursue this alongside my MBA. Will it be suitable?
Chatali, what kind of profile can one expect after completing this course? I have a background in the science stream for my graduation, so who will offer me practical training? I am eager to learn more about Training and Development and the opportunities it provides. Since you are already in this field and I am interested, please share your knowledge with me. I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks and regards,
Neha

Neha/Arpita,
I have already described the whole procedure in this posting itself.
Dip in Trg & Dev is a really useful program for professionals. Not only for the people in HR but also for other fields.
Arpita, As far as papers are concerned, only books won't help you much. You are right that people who do correspondence programs study 2 days before the examinations. The reason behind the same is the job and tight working hours.
I would not say that you have to study like a student, but yeah, it would be better if you go through all the books once. Just look at the topics included in it. You can refer to other books or surf the net on those topics. The only thing is that you should know what the subject contains because subjects are quite similar and one single topic is given in great detail. You don't need to memorize anything, but as these are recent fundamentals and ISTD material is a mixture of all good books, there is no need to refer to some author's book. You can go through some HR magazines, HR practices in different industries, etc.
In a nutshell, just assume yourself as an HR manager/trainer and then answer the question so that your answer would be richer. They really don't expect you to give much more stress on the theory part, but yes, definitions by some authors, or some formulas and all. These are all you have to read, then only you would be able to give justification.
Neha/Arpita, the greater advantage you people have is you are residents of Delhi. That makes a lot of difference. ISTD organized a lot of seminars in Delhi. I am from Gujarat, so cannot take advantage of the same.
Neha, you can enroll in the same simultaneously with your MBA. It has a good scope. It would add some spice to your academic profile as well.
They say that degrees/diplomas are not important, but if one has a good academic background, they would definitely benefit. There is nothing wrong with learning and adding degrees/certificates/diplomas to your CV.
All the best and for any queries, get back to us. There are some senior members also on this forum who have passed out ISTD years ago. They would also guide you.
Keep learning.
Regards,
Chaitali.

Hey Chiatali,
Arpita told me that I can't enroll in this because I'm done with my MBA, but still, one year is left, and I'm not eligible! I checked the website too, but there is nowhere mentioned that people pursuing an MBA can enroll in this. Is there any other course related to HR that I can enroll in?
Thanks and regards,
Neha

Hi Pratima,
ISTD is a society recognized by the Ministry of HRD. It offers a 2-year course in Training and Development. Unless you self-learn a lot of things practically, it is of no use. It can enhance the qualifications in your profile. I am attaching a detailed letter herewith.
