Hi, I don't know the exact history of how HRM originated, but I do have some knowledge about it. The top management of the organization believed that people are also assets to the organization. Therefore, they decided to appoint a person to maintain and understand the challenges faced by the employees. This appointed person is a Human Resource Manager (HRM).

You can easily find the history on this site through research. Other than that, HRM came about because there was a change in the company's mindset. They started seeing employees as one of their important assets, realizing that if they did not value their employees, they would likely leave for other opportunities. Therefore, handling employees in a satisfactory manner became immensely important, which is one of the reasons why HRM came into existence.

Before HRM was established, there was HRM in some form, but it was not developed in a functional way. For example, training was provided by any head who knew about it, salaries were given by the owner, and so on. However, as companies grew, the importance of these aspects increased. Therefore, every company needed a department to take care of and manage employees.

Previously, it was called the personnel department, which took care of the day-to-day activities of all employees. Prior to that, it could have been referred to as the section department, where each section had an officer called a section officer who took care of this.

Before HRM, PM (Personnel Management) deals with the employees in the organization. However, when human beings are considered as a resource, which is most important rather than other resources and who are sensitive and naturally possess human rights and a life full of dignity, then the new concept of HRM emerges. HRM is a department responsible for managing everything regarding human resources working in a particular organization. One thing I also came to know is that HRM Day is celebrated on August 11th every year.
