Dear Seniors,
I have just joined a new media company with a strength not more than 30 employees its a 5 day working company, i want to apply a policy of total 45 working hours in the 5 days as in the timings are 9.30 to 6.30.
As of now here the prevailing policy is, if 3 days late 1 day salary gets cut but i want to apply that kind of policy in which 45 hrs should be completed anyhow within the 5 working days and mainly i am looking for the employee's results as they are into target oriented jobs so how can i put up this kind of policy please Advise....??

Hi Sonal,
I too work in a media company and with the same pinch- 5days working, about 30 employees- timings 9:30-6:30.
I suppose you must be having an attendance policy. If not, you have to make one and if you are having one, just send a notification that following are the modifications in the attendance policy with effect from the date _____. Add the points which you want to stating that employee's working hours will be calculated at the end of the week and they should be atleast 45 hrs.
But then, there can be loopholes in this policy. Maybe an employee says I wont come on Monday, don't deduct it as leave 'coz I'll work double on Tuesday and to my understanding, if you are working for a client, maybe the deadline was Monday for a project; that way the company would be at loss.
There might be other issues as well.
What I would suggest is, make the '3 days late 1 day salary cut rule' a bit lenient. You could calculate the total hours the person put in at work and can decide not to be too harsh with this rule.
Also, you could give flexi-hours policy too. As we have a one-hour flexibility according to which people can come by 10:30am but then they will spent 9 hours accordingly.
You have to judge the company's environment. If you feel that such policy won't affect your company' work/deadlines, you can go ahead with it. Else, you just can be a bit lenient about the timings- 5-10min here and there should not affect the creative minds.
PS: I would like to know with which company you are associated with. I think we can share a lot of working culture and be benefited as we both work in media companies.
