Thank you for the post. When it comes to appraisals, I think the most important factor determining your performance is your relationship with the seniors. It is rare to find a senior who is completely free from biases.

Yes, biases are supposed to be sidelined with brilliant performance. But then, as I said 'supposed' to. I have seen quite a few examples which have forced me to believe in 'supposed' to. You must be lucky not to have had this glimpse.
