Hi Shilpa,

I am facing a problem with making an organizational chart. In my company, we want to coordinate the project and design departments. For example, each project engineer and design engineer will be reporting to two heads. Both heads are at the same level, but one will oversee the design part, and the other is responsible for project execution. How should the organizational chart be structured? Please suggest to me.

Thank you.

Hi,

This is not a complicated issue. The majority of organizations have this structure. If there are two heads, one would be the administrative head, and the other would be the functional head. Hence, one would have a direct reporting line, and the other would have a dotted line. Both, however, would appraise the person equally with equal weightage. If there are issues of ego between the two heads, then it has to be sorted out by the head of the organization by outlining who is responsible for what part of the performance of the common reportee.

Kind regards,
Dayanand

What you need is a Matrix organizational chart. Had you searched the web, you would have found it at [Matrix Organization Chart](http://global-integration.com) <link updated to site home>. More at [Google](http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&xhr=t&q=matrix+organisation +charts&cp=26&pf=p&sclient =psy&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&am p;oq=matrix+organisation+charts&pbx=1& amp;fp=a5a97038ee3e8940).
