Hi,
What an overwhelming response! I have enclosed another file from a company abroad where SAP is already in use. Please review the file to see how they utilize it and the benefits they derive from it. This additional information should assist you further.
If anything else comes to mind, feel free to compose an email. And please, there is no need for thanks; helping someone a little is not rocket science.
With warm regards,

Hi,
Somebody also asked for interview questions for SAP-HR. Here are some questions. By the way, SAP is more based on infotypes and other parts like creating employee codes, doing full and final settlement, company allocation, making pay, etc.
1. What is meant by payscale structure? How did you configure payscale structure? (I said I created various payroll areas and defaulted them using the feature ABKRS. It seemed he was expecting more than this from me.)
A: Pay Scale Structure means the creation of Payroll area, Pay scale type, area, group, and levels with EmpSub group grouping for PCR & CAP's.
2. How do you import payscale data from non-SAP to SAP? (Somebody told me that there's a tool called LEGACY to transfer non-SAP data to SAP. I said the same. Is it the same for payroll also? He wanted a clearer explanation of how I did it.)
A: Yes, you have to specify from which transaction code you are transferring data from Non-SAP into SAP.
3. How to assign a person two different pers numbers and allocate him two different comp. codes and generate a single invoice? Suppose for a person, I have two pers numbers A and B. I want to send him to one company in the morning and the other in the noon. How should I do this? (I only know one person can be given more than one position by giving a percentage in OM. I said that this process is concurrent employment.)
A: No, even with Concurrent employment, it is not possible to assign two personnel numbers for one person. You can assign him to work with two Personnel ID Numbers with the same number and make an invoice.
4. What is meant by a schema? (I said I'm only aware that it is a set of rules which is copied and renamed, but never worked on that.)
A: No, you have to explain that a schema is a set of instructions (Programs) modified as per requirements, and its process is to collect the data from all the defined instructions with sub-schemas and PCRs. As I was not authorized to work on them, I know just the process of schemas only.
5. How do you restrict the data to be entered in the payroll area?
A: Data is entered in a payroll area, but the employees are defined depending on their payscale structure. If you are restricting any data to be entered for pay structures, this is indirectly for the payroll area.
6. What is meant by authorization? Did you ever work on it?
A: Authorizations are the transactions given to the end-users or the developers for only some areas to work, infotypes, transaction codes, org units, and others depending on the requirement of the client or the developing enterprise. Check this at PFCG transaction code.
7. What is the difference between Indian and US Payroll? (I said each of them has its own ITs and the taxation differs.)
A: Yes, it is correct, and you also have to mention the benefits which are more important in the US. In the US, unemployment tax, garnishments, residence taxation, work tax, and others are significant. You need to provide a broad explanation to show your expertise.
8. How do you differentiate Tax for different countries?
A: Taxation involves creating various user exits, which means it all happens from the new versions which SAP releases.
9. What is meant by slab? How is Indian slab and US slab?
A: Grouping of employees depending on their allowances and perks is known as the slab system, which also applies to Professional Tax.
10. What are Dynamic Actions? Give a few examples. What are the ITs you used in them?
Dynamic actions are triggered by the system as a result of some personnel action. The system automatically displays the info type when a change in personnel data affects another info type. The main purpose of dynamic actions is to maintain consistent and coherent data. These actions are started automatically by the system, unlike personnel actions that you initiate yourself. An example is when you carry out an action like hiring, where you need to populate a set of info types. Your initial entry in infotype 0000 is a personnel action, and the system automatically displays the next infotypes, a result of dynamic action.
What is Recruitment Cycle?
Recruitment Cycle is the complete process of recruitment from identifying vacancies, displaying them, notifying applicants, screening and interviewing them, selecting, recruiting, and appointing them, all constituting the recruitment cycle.
What is Qualification Deficiency? How can you identify if a person lacks certain skills/qualifications?
Generally, required qualifications are stored in Required Qualifications (Infotype 5129). Any deficient qualifications can be viewed in this infotype.
What is IT 41 used for? How do you default IT 41?
IT 41 refers to Date Specifications (Infotype 0041). It records information related to date types used in reports and evaluations. This infotype can be utilized in payroll and the leave program. If more than twelve date specifications are needed for an employee simultaneously, time constraint 3 can be applied.
If the client wants the vacancy to be displayed on a website as well as ESS, how should you do it?
Employee Self-Service (ESS) enables employees to manage their HR-related data in the Enterprise Portal, including benefits, working time, career and job information, personal data, travel management, corporate information, and life and work events. Access to vacancies is granted based on authorizations, generally allowing all employees to view them.
What is internal recruitment?
Internal recruitment involves searching for internal applicants, often facilitated by tools like profile match-up when integrated with personal development. In recruitment processes, internal applicants are represented by 'P' as a person and 'AP' as an external person.
What are the problems generally faced while posting results to FICO?
Mismatches in posted amounts are common issues faced while posting results to FICO.
What is a controlling area, and how is it assigned?
A controlling area is managed by a FI person and is used for costing purposes, typically assigned based on the fiscal variant.
What is the purpose of creating a symbolic account, and can one symbolic account be assigned to multiple wage types?
The creation of a symbolic account depends on the payroll requirements, such as defining salary heads like expense accounts. A symbolic account can be assigned to multiple wage types if necessary.
What is a report variant for off-cycle activities, and what is done in this step?
A report variant for off-cycle activities is used to save input field parameters for future use, ensuring consistency in reporting processes.
What infotypes must be created at the time of hiring using PA40 and cannot be maintained later with PA30?
Creation of infotypes is essential during hiring to capture critical employee data accurately from the beginning.
If we have to create multiple positions, what method or tool can we use to avoid errors due to manual creation?
Multiple positions can be efficiently created using tools like LSMW or batch programs for TCODE PP01 or PPOCE.
What is the landscape in an SAP project, and what does it entail?
The landscape in an SAP project refers to the technical environment, including servers and systems, managed by Basis administrators.
What is the role of an administrator in PA?
An administrator in Personnel Administration is responsible for managing access, permissions, and activities related to HR processes such as recruitment, time management, and payroll.
What does Go-live entail, and what is the role of a functional consultant in it?
Go-live involves transferring data from the development server to the production server after thorough testing in the quality server. The functional consultant plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition and functionality of the system.
Best of luck for your interview.
Preeti, you may check this website for SAP-HR courses in Bangalore. The cost for a full SAP-HR course is not less than 2 lakh rupees. Different parts like payroll may have varying fee structures. Feel free to contact the provided numbers or email addresses for further details.

Hi Preet,
It would be good for your career to do the SAP course from Siemens. But to be honest it will cost you little higher then other local institutes. If I am not wrong then it may come somewhere between 2.2 lakhs to 3 lakhs in Bangalore city. But in today’s scenario it really has a great career scopes. So it won't be wrong to say that what ever you are gonna invest, you can expect every thing back within a short span of time.

I believe instead of going around some unauthorized institutes, I suggest you go to only authorized SAP e-learning centers, which are all over India. The details are available at sap.com/asia or search in a Yahoo group/Vizag. It will cost you 25k for learning and 25k for certification, for which you will be getting Siemens server login and your name will be in the authorized database.

Dear Umesh,
Greetings!
It's a really good presentation where you have given detailed information about SAP.
Dear Rohini,
Doing SAP in an ordinary institute will not provide exposure to IMPLEMENTATION, and you won't receive SAP Certification. Instead, you will get a Certificate or course completion certificate from the local Institute.
SAP authorized institutes are Siemens and Genovate. The fee for SAP HR in Genovate is Rs. 1 Lakh 60 Thousand, and the fee in Siemens is 3 Lakhs.

Kindly tell me whether SAP is valued only if a person possesses an MBA. Since I have pursued M.Sc in HRD, will SAP be useful for me to be absorbed by organizations? Please clarify this for me. Is SAP valued more only if it is done at Siemens? Kindly inform me about the fee structures too.

Hi,
The SAP training is very expensive. The scenario of SAP-HR is very much similar to the scenario that was for MBA professionals a few years ago. At that time, MBAs were not available, and today SAP professionals are not available. The same thing will happen again. By the time you finish your SAP course and join a company, by that same time, lakhs of people will be trained for SAP already. Thus, again the boom of SAP will be gone.
So, it is advisable to join a company that has already implemented SAP in the organization and get the SAP training there only on the job. That's my view, and I have succeeded in it.
There is a good quote citing the above case for people like us who suffer from booms. The better part of life is spent saying: "It's too early" and then "It's too late."
Have a great weekend.

WHY DO I NEED THE SAP R/3 APPLICATION CONSULTANT CERTIFICATION?
SAP offers consultants the opportunity to obtain recognition of their SAP System knowledge by taking a Certification Test. The certificate provides customers with assurance that the consultant has passed the SAP Project know-how, which is required to successfully implement SAP for customers.
Certified SAP consultants are integrated in a tightly knit information network with SAP, yielding greater quality and more up-to-date knowledge to benefit customers
WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE EXAMINATION?
The certification exam for core modules consists of 80 questions, which lasts for 3 hours. The no. of questions/duration may vary for advanced area. The questions are objective in nature. These examinations are release specific and reflect the actual tasks of an SAP consultant. The exams are standardized worldwide and carried out under the supervision of SAP.
WHAT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE IS TESTED?
The exam tests the knowledge required by a junior consultant to work as a productive member of project team under the supervision of an experienced SAP consultant. The certificate shows that the consultant has sound knowledge of the SAP system in the area in which he/she has been tested.
WHAT DOES THE EXAMINATION TEST?
The examination tests the candidate’s ability to:
Explain and implement various core business processes and functions in R/3 in one of the following application areas: Accounting, Controlling, Materials Management, Production & Production Scheduling, Sales Order
Processing, and Human Resources.
Describe organizational units in the mySAP system, their characteristics and their relationships
Define master data and make appropriate global settings (customizing)
Tailor SAP to customer’s needs
Work with the SAP navigator, online documentation, process and data models and implementation methodologies
Acquire knowledge through available documentation
Describe the SAP service support structure
Describe the technological requirements of the R/3 system. The certificate is release based and can be updated with further training and delta tests when new releases become available
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE PASSED?
The result will be displayed in your screen after completion of the test. The candidates need to score 70% to clear the certification
You will be able to register and re-sit the exam one month after your first attempt
CAN I RETAKE THE EXAM?
A maximum of three exam attempts is permitted. If a student has failed all three examination attempts then the only means available to gain certification will be to completely retake a full academy.

Hi Umesh,
Thank you for the reply. I have one more question. As I am a fresher, no MNC or organization with SAP implemented would consider me for a position. Should I start with any HR profile in their firm and then gradually transition into it? Or should I gain experience in another company first and then pursue that path? Please advise.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
Who says that MNCs don't appoint freshers? They do. You have two choices: either apply as a fresher to a known company where SAP is already implemented, or stay in the company, gain some experience, and then later look for another job.
If you have any questions, please feel free to write.

Hi,
It's always preferable to do SAP courses from Genovate or Siemens. Although there's not much difference between these branded training institutes compared to other illegal or small institutes in terms of teaching, it all depends upon your luck because you never know if the faculty who is teaching you is experienced in real-time or has just completed the training and started teaching. What you should have in yourself if you want to pursue a career in SAP - seriously.
The most important things to consider are:
1) Excellent communication skills - if not excellent, then at least good communication skills. There are thousands of people in the SAP market with extraordinary technical knowledge, but they are still struggling because of a lack of communication skills or presentation.
2) You would need to work diligently on a SAP system.
3) SAP requires very hardworking and dedicated individuals - even if you spend a significant amount on a course from Siemens or Genovate, there is no assurance that you will get a job.
4) Also, if you take a course from a small institute or a private tutor who is a real-time consultant, you might get a break, but unless and until you possess the first two qualities mentioned above.
IF YOU REALLY DECIDE TO ENTER THE SAP FIELD, THEN JUST FOCUS ON SAP ONLY UNTIL YOU ENTER IT - FORGET THE REST. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE SHOT WAY - GIVE YOUR 100% AND DON'T DEPEND ON ANYONE.
Thanks,
Best Regards,
Bhushan

Dear Bhushan,
Hope you're doing fine.
Have you heard of that story from school days where a teacher kept a half-filled glass of water and asked about the status of the glass? Some students said the glass was half empty, while others said it was half full. I meant to say that everyone has a different view when looking at things from various perspectives. Similarly, people who cannot even consider Siemens or Genovate might be thinking of other alternatives, emphasizing that who cares about certificates when you possess tremendous knowledge. During interviews, they prioritize testing your knowledge over your certificates.
Regarding other matters, working on SAP is truly fascinating. The more you learn, the more new things you discover in SAP. While it may not be everyone's preference to work on SAP, it's a personal choice. There's no need to demotivate individuals who have invested significant amounts in learning SAP or those who are encouraged to pursue SAP courses.

Hi,
It's not about any philosophy or demotivating anyone; these are all set market standards and the basic eligibility for SAP. People come by hope, thinking that after they do some SAP course, their life will be changed like a dream - but it's not true. Honestly, SAP is not a shortcut. You go to any institute in India, it may be Siemens or Genovate, everyone will show you the good side of the coin - but it's very important to analyze yourself before you make a decision. I may sound a bit negative, but these are the facts - no company is going to hire you unless you have 1 implementation experience. And where are you going to get that from? If you have any answer, then let us know. I don't say that you will never get a break in SAP until you have implementation experience. You will definitely, but for that, you should be very good in SAP in your specific module. Moreover, your communication and presentation skills are very important as well. What I mean to say is, don't jump blindly. Equip yourself with what it takes. For example, if you want to go to the border, then you should be equipped with all the weapons that will protect you from all the dangers. So in any field you go, there are some basic criteria. Instead of anyone judging you, it's better that you judge yourself so that you come to know where you lack, overcome your weaknesses, and then come fully prepared for your next target - SAP.
And who the hell says that certification is very important? At least not in India. If you can crack the technical interview, have good communication skills, no one is going to ask you about certification. That's it.

Hi Umesh,
My name is Amit, and I work with one of the IT organizations as an HR (Recruitment). In June 2008, I attended a training for SAP HR from Siemens. Unfortunately, I scored 69% in the certification exam. I am scheduled to retake the exam in July 18. Could you please assist me with some questions that will help me pass the exam? Additionally, I would appreciate some tips on how to study effectively in a short period. To be honest, I am quite nervous about it.
I am looking forward to your positive response.

Hi,
Someone also requested Interview questions for SAP-HR. Here are some questions. SAP is primarily based on infotypes and other aspects such as creating employee codes, conducting full and final settlement, company allocation, and processing payroll.
1. What is a payscale structure? How did you configure the payscale structure?
A: A payscale structure involves creating payroll areas, payscale types, areas, groups, and levels with EmpSub group grouping for PCR & CAP's.
2. How do you import payscale data from non-SAP to SAP?
A: You need to mention the transaction code through which you transfer data from Non-SAP to SAP.
3. How can you assign a person two different personnel numbers, allocate them to two different company codes, and generate a single invoice?
A: It is not possible to assign two personnel numbers to one person. You can assign them to work with two Personnel ID Numbers and create an invoice.

Hi all,
Can anyone tell if an MBA or post-graduate degree is needed for SAP HR training? Recently, I contacted Siemens. Although they claim to enroll graduates as well, I am not convinced about the placement opportunities after completing the course.
I also inquired with SAPGURU, but it seems they do not even respond to candidates after the training. Please share your experiences in this regard.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi there,
Regarding the mySAP ERP Certification, I would personally advise always preferring Siemens because they provide you with all the training, and finally, they give you the required materials for the examination training as well (which no other institute does, as per my personal experience).
Always study the market conditions before jump-starting any studies in SAP - HCM.

Hi,
Regarding mySAP ERP HCM, I always prefer Siemens because they provide very good training in SAP HCM (it's not SAP HR). The latest version is mySAP ERP HCM 6.0. Never opt for any other institute for training because the training provided by Siemens is far more beneficial. They also provide all the materials for the exam, including textbooks.
If you are in Delhi, you can easily find Siemens by doing a simple Google search.
There are two types of training available. E-learning, which is online training without a tutor for 6 months. However, they may start with version 5.0 and upgrade you to 6.0 in the middle, leading to potential exam failures. Many of my friends who chose e-learning due to the lower fee structure (Rs. 1,25,000 plus fees and tax totaling 1,65,000) have failed.
Classroom training costs 2,75,000 plus fees and tax totaling 3,00,000 for 1 month. There are higher chances of passing the exam with this method if you aim to become a certified SAP ERP Consultant.
You have only three attempts for the certification exam, and each time you need to pay the exam fees. Some have attempted three times before passing, while a few lucky ones passed on their first attempt.
It's crucial to understand and analyze the market before pursuing this certification. Success in this field requires hard work in studying, and ultimately, luck plays a significant role in your career path.
All the information provided is based on my personal views.

Friends, I just want to share my tragic experience about SAP HR. I wasted Rs. 2 lakh in learning from an authorized training center. I enrolled in e-learning mode. The books provided by SAP give the impression that you'll be getting a job in implementation because every lesson is about how to implement SAP in an organization. However, the reality is that the book and the course will only make you an end user, not an implementation expert.
Moreover, implementations are typically given to individuals with knowledge of ABAP HR, i.e., Techno Functional. I am willing to work anywhere in India, but to my surprise, I am unable to find any job in SAP HR. Whenever I interview for an HR position (without requiring SAP), they hesitate to offer me the job fearing that I will leave for an SAP job. On the other hand, when I apply for SAP HR roles, they do not consider freshers even though there are very few SAP HR jobs available. Unauthorized SAP training institutes have made life worse and degraded the market value of SAP professionals, especially SAP HR professionals.
Furthermore, SAP India has made certifications so challenging that candidates often struggle to clear them on the first attempt, leading to repeated attempts and revenue for SAP. Questions in the exams sometimes come out of the blue, like the one I got on switching, which was not mentioned in the book.
My advice to all SAP aspirants (HR) is not to opt for SAP training, whether authorized or unauthorized, as the scope is limited, and you may end up highly disappointed with job offers of Rs. 8000-10,000. If your company sponsors your training, then it's acceptable. Only one module, ABAP, has a promising future, typically pursued by B.Tech graduates. Other functional modules face similar challenges, with uncertain prospects ahead.

The course fee can vary from place to place. It's better if you specify what exactly you need to know. If you do a course from Siemens, then that would cost you around 3.8 lacs. And if you do it from somewhere like Hyderabad.
