You must first know for what purpose a lawyer is needed. If you required in metro city then it is more so. There are specialist lawyer and even suoer specialist. Broadly lawyer can be classified in two categoery one practicing on civil side and another one practicing on criminal side. On civil side again it can be classified like one who deals with property/ land matter. Then ther are lawyer who practices commercial law. Then Tax practiconers.Labour law practcioners. Trade mark practcioners etcetra.
Then you can have lawyer who does litigation and those who does not do litigation. Litigation lawyer will attend court cases and represents client in court . A non litigationlawyer will advice on the matter but will not attend court.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Dear Earlystar,
As u have mentioned you are looking for lawyer for software firm. First you need to understand what kind of work you will have, like agreement with your clients, agreement with your employees, to protect intellectual property rights, etc. Once you are sure with this then go for a law firm having lawyers practicing in all these fields.
If you need more specific information then please email me on
