Priyanka.
How can you compare your salary with others in HR. Probably, they are having more experience.
Secondly, also try to quantify your work...so that you have some back-up to ask for raise.
Thirdly, you need to complete atleast one year in your present organization and current role before asking for hike or raise.
I think I have answered your concerns.

Hi Sanjeev ,
Thank you for ur prompt reply.
I agree with your point of view.
But in my organization , people working in HR need not have A degree or sum special course in HR.
People wit similar experience and Undergraduates earn much better and they handle only recruitments, where as i shuttle between General HR and Recruitments.
and Depending upon the grade , I m very poorly paid.

Hi Priyanka,

While I agree with Sanjeev, I can very well understand your dilemma. One way, you are toiling hard and getting paid less whereas your colleagues with not so prominent roles getting more pay than yours.

This kind of anomalies occur commonly in organizations where there are no fixed pay scales commensurate with qualifications and experience. You, being in HR function has the advantage of highlighting this kind of discrepancies in an overall manner taking the salaries of all others into consideration. You can project with the help of a comparative statement in such a way to the Management through your boss or your immediate superior that due to this anomalies, the employees are losing their morale and not able to give out their best. If you represent your case alone, the Management may not listen to you and ask you to wait till the annual performance review is over. Apart from this, the Management may take your representation in a negative way and there is every chance of humiliating you. In order to avoid this kind of emabarrassments, you have to act diplomatically and put up a proposal to the Management giving your recommendations to eliminate anomalies in salaries prevalent in your organization. For this you may have to gather the information from others across the company in other departments as far as their salaries and their expectations are concerned. I really feel that there are many still like you in other streams who are being paid less. As you are handling HR Generalist role also, this is not a gigantic task for you. Once you gather the information, you can project the same to your boss giving your justifications and recommendations. Then see how they react to your proposal and be sure that your name is in the list of employees who are getting less salaries. The management even if it does not increase the salaries immediately, atleast at the time of revision due weightage will be given to employees who are getting low salaries. What do you say?

Good Luck!

Hi Kamadana ,
Thanks for ur reply :)
wat u suggested is a neat strategy, but being in General HR , i m not supposed to use that information against the Management, tht will be unprofessional. :(
Can u suggest something else?

Hi Priyanka,
You are not using any information against the management. You are just trying to eliminate the anomalies in salaries which in the long run may affect the morale and motivation levels of employees in the organization. You are just doing the balancing act and how can you say that it would be against the management? Your interest as well as in the interest of the organization only, you are going to put forth the proposal for rationalization of salaries. Nothing harm is being done by doing this and you are not resorting to any unethical or strong arm tactics to convince the management. You are just presenting the reality as a whole to the management being a HR professional. Nothing wrong! Dont' worry!!

Hi,
i hope u will get the answer what our seniors suggested, becase u have invest 10 months only here, earlier u were in sales, satay some more time here , if u ask to raise, and managment denyied at that time u r interest in working that organization will do down, u feel monotouns, everytime u go into the office these things reminds you. so it will create a gap to u with the organization. , stay some more days ther, do as much as possible , put your 200 % (100 % Soft skills , 100% Hard Skills ) effort to become excel in your field , prove that you can be a great assets in the organization , you are helping orgainzation to cut their cost, and prove that due to u company is getting profits.
after that if they igonre it by doing great effort, so atleast stay for 1 yrs. well related to study, you can join MBA from IGNOU, and perhaps its fee is 6000 rs per year/sem , not confirmed.

Hi Bunty ,
Thanks fr da reply.
Basically , my organization does nt believe in annual appraisals, and its April already and theres no communication abt the raise from the management,
So i don know how long to wait , i have been multitasking various roles in HR unlike others and done that proactively.
And like i told b4 , here undergraduates are paid more than what i get paid.
And postgraduates degrees are not factor for raise .
thnks
Priyanka
