Hi,

Can anyone tell me about the Maternity Act? How many days does a woman need to take maternity benefits? How much bonus does she get, and how is it applied? What formalities, e.g., needed forms, should we fill out, and who are the concerning authorities for this procedure? Please tell me step by step.

Thank you,
Pradeep

Mr. Pradeep,
To avail of the maternity benefit, a woman must have actually worked for 80 days in the twelve months immediately preceding the date of her expected delivery, as per Section 5 of the Maternity Benefit Act 1961.
The maximum period for which any woman shall be entitled to maternity benefit shall be 12 weeks.
A woman is also entitled to a medical bonus of Rs. 250.00 (now amended to Rs. 1000.00).
According to the Karnataka Maternity Benefit Rules 1966, the woman must give notice in Form D to the employer, and after payment to the employee, the employer must obtain a receipt in Form E.
For proof of pregnancy or delivery of a child, the woman must submit a certificate in Form B signed by the appropriate medical authorities.
An aggrieved person can submit a complaint to the Inspector under this act in Form H.

Hi,

Can anybody suggest the whole cycle in the maternity act, i.e., where to start until the end? What compliance should be done, to whom should the maternity benefits be availed, and what forms should be filled in? What wages should be given? I want to know the whole cycle. If anybody knows, please suggest it to me in a convenient way, please.
