Hi, I need some information on the Company Secretary role.
1. What is CS membership, and how does one become a member?
2. Can a person be both a CA and CS at the same time, or do they need to give up one certification?
3. Are there any specific requirements for obtaining signing authority as a CS?
Regards,

Membership as a Company Secretary (CS)
To get a membership as a CS, you need to qualify for the exams conducted by the ICSI as per the procedure available on their website.
Dual Qualification: CA and CS
Further, a person can obtain both CA and CS qualifications and be a member of both institutes. However, he/she can work either as a CS in full-time practice or do his CA practice while still being a member of both institutes.
Signing Authority as a CS
In order to sign as a CS, you can either start your practice or get an appointment as a CS in a company.
Hope this resolves your queries.
Thanks and regards,

Thank you, Hiten and Avika, for your help. Avika, you clarified most of my doubts. I just want to know one more thing - Is the CS to the company an external consultant? Or are they usually on the company's payroll? Some CS mentioned that they can sign only if they are consultants to the company.
By the way, are you related to this field?

I am a member of the ICSI, i.e., a Company Secretary by profession. A CS can be an employee of the company and sign as its principal officer, or he/she can sign as a consultant if he/she is a CS in full-time practice, i.e., running their own business offering services to various companies.
