Dear All,

I am entrusted to head a committee to go in depth for assigning designations to our employees, who work in different capacities on the production floor, warehouse and other departments.

I have an interdepartmental team consisting of HR, Prodn, Engg etc along with a few employee reps who are responsible for arriving at a scientific method of evolving the designation process.

I request the distinguised fellow members of this forum to throw light on this new area of responsibility for me?

I would request you all to help me in going about the basic steps in the initial stages to get the team together & put process in the right perspective.

rgds,

Dear Radha Krishna,
Its Mandatory to start with Job Analysis and Job design, without which, its difficult to allocate the Designation & to define the carrier path. if you are having a full knowledge of the Operational process & Systems, it will be an added advantage to design the job.
If you are already having the copy of their Job descriptions, then analysis of the same has to be made. if not you should make an attempt to distribute the format for all employees to extract the details required, and then through an individual discussion with the employee, the job description should be finalized.
then sitting with the respective department head, we need to allocate the designations based on their profile.
Its not a week's job to be done, it requires the understanding of the operations process & Systems , Better co-ordination with the departmental heads, Sensitive to understand the pulse of the employees & Dept head etc .
Best of Luck for your new Assignment.
Regards
Sundar
